- totalKm = initialKm + sum of logged run distances for that shoe. remainingKm = max(0, reminderKm - totalKm). percentOfReminder = totalKm / reminderKm × 100. The reminder is chosen by the user; the tool does not infer a universal replacement mileage.
- The reminder distance is a user preference, not a manufacturer or medical recommendation.
- Only distances entered in this browser are counted; the data is stored locally.
- The log is not a substitute for inspecting outsole, foam, upper and comfort.
- The tool does not track shoe rotation automatically.
- Distances to one decimal place in kilometres; percentage to one decimal place.
Independent arithmetic: 100 + 10 + 5 = 115 km. 600 - 115 = 485 km remaining. 115/600 × 100 = 19.166..., rounded to 19.2%.

In a secondary analysis of a randomised trial involving 527 recreational runners, moderate or high perceived heel cushioning was associated with lower injury risk than low cushioning. Higher overall shoe appreciation was associated with lower injury risk. The study reports associations, not proof that changing cushioning prevents injury.
NHS advises buying proper running shoes and getting fitted at a running shop, while noting that expensive shoes are not essential. Unsupportive or worn-out shoes are listed among factors that can contribute to heel pain. Do not run while in pain; seek medical or physiotherapy advice when pain is severe, persistent or accompanied by swelling.
Advanced footwear technology commonly combines compliant, resilient foam with a full-length carbon fiber plate that increases longitudinal bending stiffness. Whether the plate itself produces metabolic benefits is debated. The systematic review and meta-analysis found carbon-plated shoes associated with lower metabolic demand across running-economy measures, while individual responses and study limitations remain relevant. The evidence does not establish that every runner will improve or that carbon-plated shoes prevent injury.
